The Railroad of Ciro is historically remembered for it’s steam locomotives, it passes through the landscapes of Hercegovina starting in Mostar alongside the Neretva river all the way across the border of Croatia, ending in Dubrovnik. The construction of this trail started in 1898 and ended in 1901. Today this trail is reconstructed into a cycling track.
We start the excursion in Čapljina, visiting Mogorjelo – Roman Villa Rustica, and making pause on various lookouts and rest areas, and crossing the bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel, an engineer who also designed the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The first longer break is in Brštanica, where the old Ćiro station is located. Place for picnic.
The next break is in Ravno, visiting the hotel “Stanica”, where we will taste local wines. Hotel Stanica is actually an old Ćiro station that has been reconstructed into a beautiful local hotel and household.
We end the day with a visit to the world-famous Vjetrenica Cave, also the largest and most important cave in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After visiting the Vjetrenica cave, we end the excursion in the restaurant “Gostionica Zavala” where we will taste local specialties and local cuisine..
